New Goals and a New Start

I've made the decision to be better (read: actually start!) a running and training blog.  This will make me more accountable and perhaps help me find and assess the root of my training accomplishments and blunders.  In this I plan to:

  • List my goals for running/training by the end of this week.
  • Attach a weekly workout plan with a schedule for running, cycling, and strength.
  • Keep up a nutrition log to see where I can improve and how nutrition is affecting my training. Keep this up for 30 days.
  • Formulate a plan for racing next year and have key goal races (by the end of the week) instead of just signing up for races at a whim.
  • Update at least 5 days per week and a recap of the weekends for 1 month.
  • Keep a weight log and measurement log to track my progress for at least 30 days.  I have about 30 pounds to lose again.
  • As a gimmick to keep myself motivated, bring my phone and take one photo on each running day and upload to this training log.

These seem like reasonable and attainable goals.  I need to get back into a groove.  I've let so much slack on my training that I've put on much of the weight that I so successfully lost when I was in Texas.  This is bothering me immensely.

Anyhow, fall is here and I'm ready to start at it again!

2010 Race Summary

2010 really was the year of more cycling and running for me than triathlon.  I had really planned to do 3 tri's for the 2010 season and I even joined USAT with that in mind, but in the end I only did 1.  Even so, I did a lot of running races and plenty of group cycling events and I feel really good about 2010. I am determined to do even more races in 2011 with a full marathon in June (my first!) and a half iron-man by the end of the season.

Here's a race re-cap for 2010:

  • February 27 Cowtown 5k in Ft. Worth, TX
  • March 14, Rock 'n' Roll Dalls Half Marathon
  • April 4, Tour Dallas Bike ride, Dallas, TX
  • April 10, Lancaster Country ride, Lancaster, TX
  • April 17, Ft. Worth Zoo run
  • April 23, Germanfest Metric Century Ride, Muenster, TX
  • May, Katy Trail 5k, Dallas, TX
  • May 23, Ironhorse Sprint Triathlon, Cleburne, TX
  • June 26, Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Half Marathon, Seattle, WA
  • July 31, Goatneck 70 miler, Cleburne, TX
  • August, Richardson Corporate Challenge 5k, Richardson, TX
  • August, Richardson Corporate Challenge 9 mile Bike Ride, Richardson, TX
  • October 18, Firefly Run, Plano, TX
  • November 7, DRC Half Marathon, Dallas, TX
  • November 25, Dallas Turkey Trot 8 miler, Dallas, TX
  • December, White Rock Half Marathon, Dallas, TX
  • December 18, Jog'r Egg Nog'r 15K run, Dallas, TX

Here's to a great 2010 racing season and hopefully an even better 2011 season!

Christmas day run

Christmas day run.  I waited way too late to do this one.  It was so cold.  I need to get in a better routine of doing these runs mid-day.  One benefit of running late, though, is seeing all the Christmas lights along Southwestern in the Village.  It is so pretty.
